Course Profile: Old Beaver Creek
Old Beaver Creek – Championship
Designers: Bill Rader and Brian Jeffords
Theme: Boreal
Firm / Speed: Med / Med
Top 100 Ranking: 5th (November 2015)
Designers’ Notes: Old Beaver Creek is a course that I kind of picture in the mountain/hills of northwest South Carolina or thereabouts. Lots of foliage, a lovely lake with some spectacular lake houses that are accessible by plane and boat only, old beaver creek itself… it’s a great place to kick back, play a round, grab a pole and try to wiggle in a few big ones while you’re out there!
Quick Review Notes: When this course was released in 2014, it was a standard setter for not only the Boreal theme, but for the GNCD and course creation itself. Some 10 months or so later, this course still stands up to the best, which is a testament to the great hole designs and sharp planting and scultping work. This course will be challenging on most days, but capable of yielding some lower scores to smartly executed rounds in favorable conditions. In other words, a great tournament venue. The 18th hole remains one of the more memorable closing holes and par 5’s in the game.
